Never too old to say I DO

I DO Weddings by Sheri
A reflection of love

Already full of life's experiences, Older couples rarely need the pomp and circumstance of a large traditional wedding. The wedding words for most ceremonies are words for young love, beginning anew, inexperienced. They don't need the words about starting a family because they usually have children, mostly grown and are combining families and assets that they have acquired along the way. They may also be a couple whom has already been together for many years but due to divorce, being a widow or widower, they have put off making it official. A sense of comfort and ease with an exit strategy that doesn't require losing half of what they have worked hard for like homes, physical assets, pensions and 401K or just plain old fear of failure, and even worse yet, family members not accepting the new partner into the family, might have them put off having a wedding ceremony.

Mature certainly does not equal fuddy duddy

Mature couples who do tie the knot once again are amazingly happy, full of joy, belly laughs, crude jokes and just over all fun!

Helping couples find the right words for their situation makes all of the difference. I found this poem among many words I have collected and created over the years. I would like to share it with you.

Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine von Radics

I am not the first person you loved.
You are not the first person I looked at
with a mouthful of forevers. We
have both known loss like the sharp edges
of a knife. We have both lived with lips
more scar tissue than skin. Our love came
unannounced in the middle of the night.
Our love came when we’d given up
on asking love to come. I think
that has to be part
of its miracle.

Just the two of them at home

This is how we heal.
I will kiss you like forgiveness. You
will hold me like I’m hope. Our arms
will bandage and we will press promises
between us like flowers in a book.
I will write sonnets to the salt of sweat
on your skin. I will write novels to the scar
of your nose. I will write a dictionary
of all the words I have used trying
to describe the way it feels to have finally,
finally found you.

waiting 39 years to be allowed to get married

And I will not be afraid
of your scars.
I know sometimes
it’s still hard to let me see you
in all your cracked perfection,
but please know:
whether it’s the days you burn
more brilliant than the sun
or the nights you collapse into my lap
your body broken into a thousand questions,
you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
I will love you when you are a still day.
I will love you when you are a hurricane.

Many older, mature and established couples own their homes and have enough space for a really nice backyard wedding or host the wedding inside their home. Others just want a small private space to exchange vows. 50% of mature couples choose to write their own vows.

It still amazes me to get chosen by these wonderfully diverse and spectacular couples. To get for just a little while to be a part of their love story, learn a little about who they are and share a bit of one of their important life moments.

Some couples meet at the wrong time and have to wait almost a lifetime for it to be the right time to come together in marriage. What a wonderful thing it is to find someone to spend your golden years with.

Love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful, never haughty (arrogant) or rude, Love does not insist on its own way: it is not irritable or resentful; it doesn't rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. A Quick Military Wedding in Oviedo

Millennials, Battle buddies, Married.

Kyle and Stacey say I DO in a super intimate wedding in Oviedo. Learning he was soon to be deployed or stationed in Germany, Kyle expressed how important it was to get married before he left. I want to be able to bring my wife with me over to Germany. Bride Stacey was a higher ranking officer when she was in the military but currently is out of service due to injury. So they had the perfect window to get married.

On a daytime talk show recently one of the hosts stated that millennials aren't getting married. Um...so... what is happening here? Millennials-check, getting married - double check!

The happy couple just before the ceremony

I DO Weddings by Sheri performs weddings of all sizes from private to low key and casual to luxurious. However, I DO Weddings by Sheri specializes in intimate and destination weddings for ALL couples (including LGBTQIA+ and mixed orientation couples). I feel especially accomplished when I can make a small wedding (like the one below) feel romantic, fun and monumental + add a few nice pictures to tide them over with the lovey dovey feels until the big formal wedding.

Military couple Kyle and Stacey tie the knot before he is stationed in Germany the next day

Kyle and Stacey wanted to tie the knot before he shipped out to Germany on Monday so we had to get to work right away. When he called me on Friday, I was at the emergency room because I had hurt my back the previous Saturday and there was no end in sight for the pain. Since it was going to be very small and they didn't want to do anything grand because they were planning a bigger formal wedding when they finish this tour of duty, I was happy to share their I DO's.

This couple was so awesome and wrote their own vows , which they read from their cellphones, which is usually a big no no, but due to time constraints I didn't force the issue, I was just happy and surprised they were able to write such beautiful vows to one another in basically the span of 1 day. Most couples take months and sometimes I am still trying to get them right up until the day before the ceremony.

Choosing to do a small intimate wedding with mostly just Kyle's family in attendance (Stacey's family is all out of state and this was a true last minute decision to get married right away) gave them the freedom to be themselves, embrace their military background and have a bit of fun with the photos. Like the push-up kiss.

I make the small wedding as special as possible through words and ceremonies used to create unique and personal wedding ceremonies. Why you ask?

I DO Weddings by Sheri
not so 'private' smooches

1. Because I love what I do and I like to do what I love with passion.

2. Because 75% of couples never do the big wedding day or if it happens, its so far off from when they thought it would be. Life happens, so it could be 10, 20 or 40 years later. They are technically already married and most can always find something else to use the money for … like buying a house or starting a family.

3. I am from the old school of thought... if you are going to do something, do it to the best of your ability. Give more than what is expected.

4. Love is an important part of the human experience.

I take something that can easily be boring, done to death, and mundane (YAWN) and give it a fresh feel, make it emotional, romantic, fun and most importantly memorable.

Maybe the groom will look fondly at the pictures from this day, think back on the beautiful words of love they exchanged, keeping his wife close in his heart and mind, though they are oceans apart

From the groom-
Thank you so much for being part of this monumental moment of our lives! We couldn't thank you enough for making this moment special.

Q & A with author Leslie Wolfe

At the end of August author Leslie Wolfe published Casino Girl. If you have not had a chance to pick up a copy you can get it here! You can also  read the Q & A session below and find out more about the amazing Leslie Wolfe as well as the music behind the book.

Q&A with Leslie Wolfe

  1. What is Casino Girl about?
A team of Las Vegas detectives who trust each other with their lives, only not with their deepest,
darkest secrets. Together, they investigate a young girl’s murder, not realizing they are more like
each other than they think they are.
  1. What would readers remember after they finish reading the book?
There’s a hidden side to every one of us, a part that only we know about, that’s important to us, and
that we wish to keep a secret. That hidden side of us is what makes us who we are, what makes us great at what we do.
  1. Your writing style is fast, filled with dialogue, almost at the expense of descriptives and narratives. Why is that?
This is how human beings interact, especially when under pressure or stress.
We stop paying attention to our surroundings, and focus on the task at hand. People interact with
one another, talk to one another, and have feelings for one another and for everything we do.
That’s what I’m focused on, rather than specifying each article of clothing someone wears, or the color
of the flower vase in an office somewhere. This technique isn’t necessarily good or bad; just somewhat
different from mainstream.
  1. What’s the biggest compliment you received from a fan?
It’s when readers tell me they stay up all night to finish the book, because they couldn’t put it down.
That’s music to my ears Like any other artist and entertainer, I thrive knowing that I deliver that
escape into the fictional world in a grasping, addictive, and memorable way.
  1. You mentioned science, technology, psychology. How do you keep it real?
I do extensive amounts of research for my work, and I’m fascinated by what I have the opportunity to
learn. Additionally, sections of my books go through a process of validation at the hands of several
fantastic partners who are law enforcement officers, attorneys, scientists, doctors in medicine.
In Dawn Girl, for example, there are sections that speak about using certain plant extracts and animal
venoms to achieve certain goals. Despite the extensive research, my hands were shaking a little as I
wrote them, metaphorically speaking, and I was relieved when my research “passed scientific review.”
In Casino Girl I had the privilege to enjoy the assistance of three fantastic friends: New York’s best
criminal attorney, an expert in casino gambling who spent his entire career in Las Vegas, and the most
talented fashion director I’ve ever met. I’m grateful to all of them for lending me their edge.
  1. Do you do any book signings, interviews, speaking and personal appearances?

  • If so, when and where is the next place where your readers can see you?
  • Where can they keep up with your personal contacts online?

Apart from social media and email interactions, I’m a veritable recluse. Email is the best and quickest
way to reach me, and I was fortunate to build true friendships with readers over email. The majority of
my readers ask me when’s the next book coming out, not when I’m getting out of the house, so I get
the hint and keep on writing.
  1. Is Casino Girl going to be continued?
This book is the second in the Las Vegas Crime Series, and yes, a third could happen very soon.
So far, this series has been very well received by the readers, and my fans have been adamant: they
want more. Therefore yes, there’s more, and there will be even more, coming soon. It all starts with
Las Vegas Girl.

Here is my third attempt at creating cool macro ring shots with relatively cheap props. I tried to make a rippling water illusion.

the shot  1/13 sec f/5.6 35mm  ISO 100

Can you guess what I used in this picture?
I'll give you a hint....absolutely no water.

I shot this photo on the shelf in my office, using a blue glitter card, 2 triangle led lights and a clear soap dish I found for like $2 or $3.

This next shot is very basic, using a stress relief toy that I got while I was working for a fortune 500 company and a reflective card and two led lights. the light on the lens is shone pretty clearly on the ring.

the shot 1/60 sec f/4 35mm  ISO  400

trying to see what two different color pieces of glitter card stock would look like as a background.

the shot  1/10 sec f/5.6 35 mm  ISO 100

I tried a few shots using manual settings. This is shot inside of a white container with gold on the inside. I assume it was possibly a votive holder that I found for $3. The next two shots show the rings sitting on the bottom of the container.
the shot  1/40 sec f/3.2 35 mm ISO 100

the shot 1/160 sec f/3.5  ISO 800

Look! I managed to get the inside writing so I am hopeful I can now capture the ring inscriptions.

the shot 1/8 sec f/5.3  35 mm  ISO 800

I managed to find some Elmer's putty at Michael's but trying to crop out the orange was a bit tricky. it is great for standing up rings though. I am going to try to use a smaller piece and see how that turns out. In the meantime, I am going to order clear dental wax instead. It should be easier to crop out of the pictures.

Unedited ring standing up with Elmer's removable adhesive tack. The shot is the same for all three pictures. I almost got the orange not to show on the last two.

the shot 1/13 sec f/5.6  35 mm  ISO 100

This is an unedited picture of the rings on the black shelf with just a flash

the shot 1/60 sec f/4 35 mm  ISO 400

This isn't so bad. Just letting the rings speak for themselves. Now all I need to do is get the hubs to make me a portable black background to use. I was thinking a clear one would be cool especially for beach shots but I will keep looking to see what I can come up with.

I  recently got a quantum led pen light (flash light/torch) with a clip that is really bright and also dims so I can clip it to my suit jacket or blouse and won't need to have an additional light person to hold lights for me. It was on sale at Harbor Freight for $5.99. So hopefully I can use it to get rid of those pesky shadows when I am photographing couples in dim light settings.

I also found a camping fan and led light combo that I want to use for those billowing veil pictures so I won't need to have anyone holding up the veil. Unfortunately because of the heat most brides in Florida and destination brides forego the long dramatic veils in favor of none at all or very short ones or birdcage veils.  Any how, I am looking forward to testing the new lights out.
